Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a versatile, cost-effective cosmetic procedure that can repair chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth in a single visit.

What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure in which a tooth-colored composite resin material is applied to the surface of a tooth and hardened with a special curing light. The material bonds to the tooth, improving its appearance and restoring its shape and function. Bonding is one of the most affordable and least invasive cosmetic dental procedures available and can often be completed in a single office visit without anesthesia.

The composite resin used in dental bonding can be precisely matched to the natural color of your teeth, making the restoration virtually indistinguishable from surrounding tooth structure. The dentist sculpts and shapes the material directly on the tooth, then polishes it to a natural-looking finish. The entire process typically takes 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.

Dental bonding is commonly used to repair chipped or cracked teeth, close small gaps between teeth, improve the appearance of discolored teeth, make teeth look longer, change the shape of teeth, and protect exposed tooth roots caused by gum recession.

While dental bonding is durable and functional, it is not as strong as porcelain veneers or crowns and may be more susceptible to staining over time. With proper care, dental bonding typically lasts between three and ten years before requiring touch-up or replacement.

Caring for bonded teeth is straightforward. Brush twice daily, floss daily, and visit the dentist for regular checkups. Avoid biting hard foods or objects with bonded teeth, and if you grind your teeth at night, ask your dentist about a night guard.
