Full or Partial Dentures
Dentures are removable prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They can significantly improve your oral health, chewing ability, and aesthetics.
Dentures offer a time-tested solution for individuals who have lost some or all of their natural teeth. Beyond restoring your smile, dentures play a crucial role in maintaining the structural integrity of your face, preventing the sagging that can occur with tooth loss. They also enable you to eat a wider variety of foods, which is essential for proper nutrition, and improve speech clarity that might be affected by missing teeth.
There are two main types of dentures: complete and partial. The choice between them depends on the number of teeth you are missing and the overall health of your remaining natural teeth and gums. Our dental team will conduct a thorough examination and discuss your specific needs and preferences to recommend the best option for you.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are used when all teeth in an arch (upper or lower) are missing. They can be either "conventional" or "immediate." Conventional dentures are made after all remaining teeth are extracted and the gum tissues have healed, a process that can take several months. During this healing period, you would be without teeth. Immediate dentures, on the other hand, are fabricated in advance and can be placed immediately after tooth extraction, providing you with teeth during the healing period. However, immediate dentures often require adjustments or relining after the gums have fully healed.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are an excellent option when you have some natural teeth remaining. They consist of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base, which is connected by a metal framework that holds the denture in place. Partial dentures not only fill the gaps created by missing teeth but also prevent your remaining natural teeth from shifting, which can lead to further dental problems. They are removable and can be easily taken out for cleaning.
Denture Care and Maintenance
Proper care is essential for the longevity and hygiene of your dentures, as well as for your oral health. This includes daily cleaning to remove food particles and plaque, soaking them overnight in a denture cleansing solution, and rinsing them thoroughly before placing them back in your mouth. Regular dental check-ups are also vital to ensure your dentures fit correctly and to monitor the health of your gums and any remaining natural teeth.
With proper care and regular professional guidance, dentures can provide a comfortable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing solution for tooth replacement, allowing you to enjoy life with confidence.
